|---|
We're having a fund raiser for the victims of the Tsunami disaster that hit around the South Pacific/Indian Ocean area.
As you may know, an earthquake hit off the coast of Indonesia sending tsunamis around the region that have killed at least 100,000 people as far from Malaysia and Indonesia, all the way to India and Africa. Many of those people were children, and a number of them were children from America, Australia, etc who were on Christmas vacation with their parents. Entire villages have been destroyed and lives have been ruined.
Here's the deal: If you make a donation to the Red Cross, OxFam, etc. towards the tsunami fund (or actually any of the international relief efforts) then you will be considered a site sponsor to s-m.net. Basically, it'd be like donating to s-m.net but actually having the money save lives across the world. Just like site sponsors, the more you give the more you get back from s-m.net. It's not much, but it's all I can do as I've already donated money. Plus you'll also have the knowledge of knowing that you're helping lives across the world. You might not know who they are, but you'll be saving their lives. I know many people don't really want to donate to a website, and that's fine--so put your money to better use and donate it to people who absolutely need it. If you don't care about the relief fund, that's fine--then donate the money anyways to show your support for s-m.net. Whatever reason you have, please do it if you can. Even a $5 donation is good, and hey, it's tax deductible.
Just donate at any of the places below (or places of your own choice), you can do it online, by phone, or by mail. Then contact me and let me know.
Places to donate: Amazon.com This is recommended if you have an amazon.com account. It's simple, easy, and doesn't require you to bring out any credit cards. The Australian Red Cross - because they're closer and you can directly choose where the money goes but The American Red Cross is good too. MercyCorps Care - You can donate money... or frequent flyer miles! Oxfam - Donate through them too.
Please do NOT use any of the donation buttons on the website! Go to those sites instead.
As this is a fund raiser, if you donate elsewhere or through those sites, please let me know so your contribution gets added to the tally. Let's see what the s-m.net community can pull together. |
